Wow.
That's about all anyone can say right now about the historic show that Davidson Guard Stephen Curry is putting on in the NCAA Tournament.
Last weekend, Curry led his Davidson Wildcats to first- and second-round wins over perennial NCAA contenders Gonzaga and Georgetown with two epic scoring performances of 40 and 30 points respectively.
Last night, Curry was good for an encore against 3-seed and Big Ten Champ Wisconsin. Curry dropped 33 points on the Badgers who probably looked at the final score of 73-56 and wondered what happened.
For me, Davidson's success has a personal side as my dad was a student at Davidson during their previous hoops heyday under Hall of Fame coach Lefty Driesell. I was fortunate enough to have spent Easter weekend in Raleigh with my Dad watching his alma mater claim two of the greatest wins in their school's illustrious hoops history.
Standing among the exuberant students, alumni and fans of Davidson in the concourse of the RBC Center as they spontaneously broke into rounds of "Sweet Caroline" and cheers of "Bob-Mc-Kill-Op" and "Steph-en-Cur-ry" it was easy to realize why March Madness is such a beloved phenomenon in this country.
Regardless of whether your bracket is still in tact or totally busted, it's hard not to be cheering for the Davidson Wildcats right now. While the David and Goliath comparisons have been plentiful regarding Davidson's run thus far, many writers seem to leave out the end of the story. After David beat Goliath, he didn't just fade into the background. Instead, he would go on to became the greatest King that Israel had ever known.
If Davidson can beat Kansas on Sunday night, they will join George Mason as the only double-digit seeds to ever make the Final Four. I'd say that'd make them basketball royalty.
