By Ben Beliles, from Guam, on the outer rim of the Republic
Fortunately, there are some voices crying out in the wilderness. Writers like the late Oriana Fallaci, the great Italian journalist, and the writer Victor Davis Hanson who continues to beat the drums about the encroaching radical Islamic advance against the West, do exist. Unfortunately they are few and far between in a society that is remarkably unconcerned.
What I detest most about the opponents of the war, most notably the Democratic rank and file who urge their presidential candidates to be as anti-war as possible, is their complete absence of appreciation for the tragedy that is occurring. They are often quite giddy about the prospect of defeat for their nation. They cheer like hyenas when their leaders talk about withdrawal like it’s some sort of sporting event. This merely highlights their lack of respect for the men and women of the armed forces who have laid down their lives for our country. They trumpet the death list around as if they really care about it, but what they are actually doing is stomping around on the fresh graves of the dead while using the list for their own political purpose, which is the weakening of the American political will to fight. In addition, while they feign a sense of appreciation for a military that they have reviled since well before the 1960s, the leftwing’s true colors are exposed by their blackout of the study of military history throughout the academy where recent studies have demonstrated the complete dearth of military historians and the absence of the teaching of military history. Perhaps the academy fears that teaching military history will glorify the military they despise.

Despite these concerns, I put my hope in a remnant of Americans who understand the times we live in and have devoted their lives to the preservation of all that is good about Western Civilization and democracy.
Friends like my best man at my wedding, Captain Phil McDowell, a life long friend and basketball buddy, who I talk to every few days on Skype. He’s currently in a province in eastern Iraq near the Iranian border, trying to train Iraqi military to protect and stabilize their country. I get to hear his hopes and his fears, and his frustrations as his 12 month tour was extended to 15 months. I am extremely proud of him and his sacrifices for our country.
A captain, whose name I won’t give here, is a fellow Air Force JAG Corps officer stationed at my office. She’s not here now though because she’s in Baghdad for six months while her three teenage children are here at home with their father. She is helping to establish the rule of law and provide due process rights to people she doesn’t know, who have never experienced due process even from their own countrymen and hardly know what it is. But that is the way America does things. We expand liberties where none existed before. And we will continue to do that in the Western tradition, until we are overrun by Islam. There are a few of us, out here, standing up for truth and freedom,
My wife Carrie is four and a half months pregnant with our first child. We wonder what kind of world we are going to leave her. It will certainly be a dangerous one. We found out that it’s going to be a little girl a few days ago. We are confident that a world in which Americans like these friends of ours exist will never go down without a fight, no matter what the cost and no matter what the odds. As the Islamic advance overruns Europe slowly but steadily, and the lights throughout Europe go out, squashed by Sharia law and the extinction of the ideals which have made Europe great, America will stand fast. Our military will stay the course, whether the American people forget about the war and its significance or not.
Let’s hope it hasn’t already come to that.
What values our country stands for today
Imagine the culture of the 1950s. As a man you have just help win the biggest war of all time. You have a good job with a good company that will provide you with a great pension after you retire at 62. When you come home after an eight hour day, you leave the office behind, perhaps have time to coach your son's little league team. When you walk in the door each evening, your wife has supper on the table and your other four children are scrubbed and clean. They all great you as a hero and you feel like the king of your own little castle.
Flash forward to 2007. As a white man in America, the media paints you as everybody's n**** You are the only member of society that is not protected in some way by feel good legislation enacted by Democrats and RINO Republicans. You are not promoted at work because you are not a favored minority, you have no health insurance and your company is about to have another round of cuts of middle management, meaning more middle aged White men will be fired. To add insult to injury, a group of women at work has sued the company for harassment claiming that you stare at them in an inappropriate manner, leaving you to wonder how you could possibly look up from your work without actually appearing to see your coworkers. You come home at night to an empty house, most of you are divorced and because of Democrat enacted laws, few of you have custody of your kids, or even visitation rights. Your ex-wife does all she can to sabotage your remaining professional opportunities by spreading rumors to your clients. She teaches your kids to shun you and to be ashamed that you can't earn six figures. Your government does all it can to destroy economic opportunities for you, and favors all of the subgroups who have always hated White men, now your own women are piling on, sabotaging you at work and filing frivolous lawsuits to get you fired. Your kid's schools will not even allow you on the grounds to pick up your kids because your wife has not given permission for you to e there. When tax time roles around, you pay all the taxes on the child support you pay to your ex wife, she pays no taxes on the money she receives and doesn't even have to spend that money on your children. Her crack head boyfriend and her own snow-nose habit really appreciate you faithfully sending that money every month by allotment.
Now leap to a typical Middle Eastern Islamic household before the Iraq war. Money is tight, but your family never seems to mind. When you come home from a hard day at work, your wife and children swarm around you showing their love. Your loyal wife has, as always, managed to create a great meal out of the local vegetables and fresh meat at the local markets. You lead your family in prayer and after your meal, you share some songs and perhaps read the Koran, or just spend some time playing board games together or with extended family.
Would any man want to exchange a healthy Islamic family lifestyle for what passes for the American lifestyle of the 21st Century? It doesn't surprise me that Islamic men resist this feminazi dominated lifestyle of the Americans, but what is most baffling is the stupid bastards in America go off and get maimed or killed on behalf of an American culture that treats them like s***. Haven't any of these men stopped to think what complete absence of values that America represents today? Americans can't even lead their school children in prayer anymore, and yet thousands of American men are apparently willing to be killed in an effort to destroy the last remaining culture on Earth that has patriarchal families and honors their men. America craps all over our men, and they are apparently too stupid to even see the s*** piling on top of their heads.
A good commentary, but.....
I really have enjoyed these three posts. However, I think that there is one major point missing: the Administration has done nothing to make a case for this conflict in the past 18 months.
I don't care what the issue is, you must have a clear concise message that gives individuals a reason to support your line of thinking. Unfortunately this administration has not done this and is allowing the left to dominate the debate.
This is a war about civilization. There is a select group of Muslims who would truly like to exterminate Western civilization. They're not exactly shy about proclaiming this goal. Our servicemen and women are fighting to preserve a culture that allows the individual to flourish as opposed to a worldiview that would chill the faculties of mankind.
Do you ever hear an articulation of values such as Mr. Beliles' used by the Administration? A clear statement of values and principles for which our service fights? HELL NO. You get very vague terms that convey no sense of conviction. "Global War on Terror" "Democracy" "Surge" "Benchmarks" etc. So many generalities and process oriented terms are supposed to be the "buzzwords." But "buzzwords" can't cut butter if there is not a supporting idea behind the word. Rather than sitting around and playing footsie about "appropriations" and other process laden terms, perhaps Tony Snow could make a case about WHAT the troops fight for.
On a lighter note, congratulations on your announcement! I am sure you are excited about the prospect of becoming a father.
