Newest additions to list of things that I HATE with the fiery passion of a thousand suns:
1. Tyler Hansborough
2. The University of Georgia
Thanks to these two things, Virginia Tech was denied a chance to play in the NCAA tournament despite finishing with a winning record in the toughest league in the country and despite taking the #1 team in the nation to the wire in the ACC semifinals.
SEC fans, your conference is a complete joke. When a team wth a losing record can come in and win your conference tournament that makes you a mid-major. And don't even get me started on the Big [L]East.
Oh well, now I get the joy of watching Deron Washington and VT's fabulous freshman class play a few more games at Cassell Coliseum as they have secured a #1 seed in the NIT tournament. I'll be in my seat Wednesday night clad in Orange and Maroon to watch the Hokies demolish Morgan State.
Only three teams will finish this season with a win. Here's hoping that Virginia Tech will prove the selection comittee wrong and be one of them.
A couple more to hate on.
First, I'll state that VT could've helped themselves many times. The fact that they did not beat a single ranked team this season greatly damaged their chances. That being said, one more win at almost any point in the season might've been enough to get in. So close losses to Clemson, Miami, Wake Forest, ODU, and worst of all, Richmond, give you plenty of other teams to be frustrated with.
But look at it this way. UVa, that beat a #17 Arizona team on the road and was ranked #23 at one time (was VT ranked? I honestly cannot remember) is relegated to the newly formed CBI. Trust me, things could've been worse.
Tech Denied
Tech was denied a Tournament slot because they didn't beat any good teams. Wins over Maryland and and Virginia can only take you so far. To the NIT, in fact.
Funny, when Virginia Tech
Funny, when Virginia Tech was in the Big "L" East, they weren't even able to make into the conference tournament, let alone the NCAA or NIT. In the ACC there a powerhouse? No wonder they changed conferences...
ACC = most overrated conference in the history of sports.
NIT-ing It Up!
An interesting comment on the SEC's basketball fortunes this year. However, VT did prove the NCAA Selection Committee wrong this evening - that perhaps Ole Miss was one of the slighted teams and VT should have been in the CBI. Hotty Toddy!
You Stay Classy, Mississippi
Congratulations to Ole Miss on a nice win this evening. They destroyed VT on the boards and that was the difference in the game, in my opinion. I was very impressed with Ole Miss' inside game and 3-point shooting. It really makes one wonder why it is that they played so poorly when they had the opportunity to make it into the NCAA tournament. There's no excuse for losing to Georgia, none.
